District II
November 19, 2016–February 12, 2017
District II showcased urban street photography by Bill Barrett, Chris Earnshaw, and Joseph Mills. Their works captured the physical and social upheavals experienced in downtown Washington, DC, during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.
“Everyone here agrees—it’s a gem of a show! Thank you again for working your magic,
working quickly, and having patience with us!”
—Chrysanthe B. Broikos

Objective_
Arrange three curatorial sections—Mount Vernon Squared, Billy Luck’s Downtown, and Inner City—featuring photographs and artifacts in a single 746-square-foot gallery.
Approach_
We arranged the story clockwise, with angled walls creating more space for hanging objects. Wall cases were designed with the angled walls in mind, while table cases floated in the space opposite a storyboard featuring works by Billy Luck. Joseph Mills’s work—digital prints mounted on varnished metal plates—was “cradled” at the end of the visitor’s journey.
